Welcome to the Wetwang Scarecrow Festival Website!
From Saturday 24 May to Sunday 1 June 2008 the residents of Wetwang hope to draw 5,000 visitors from across Yorkshire and beyond with the 6th Annual Wetwang Scarecrow Festival. The Festival helps to raise much-needed funds for the ongoing upkeep of the Village Community Hall, which was built in 2000 thanks to a lottery grant and a huge amount of enthusiasm from the villagers. As the centre of our community, the Village Hall boasts a wide range of activities for young and old; from karate to band practice and bingo, also acting as the school gymnasium and even hosting the odd wedding!
In 2008 we expect to see over 100 scarecrows in Wetwang. The winners will be chosen by an illustrious team of judges, which includes the outgoing Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the editor of Driffield Times, Driffield Post and Beverley Guardian and the headmasters – past and present – of Wetwang School. There will also be a public vote throughout the week.
Other highlights of the Festival include the Craft Fayre and Scarecrow Cafe, which take place in the Village Hall every day from 10am until 5pm. So, why not take a break from your tour of the scarecrows and visit the Hall to enjoy delicious homemade cakes, participate in the popular tombola, buy a ticket for the prize draw and indulge in other fun activities.
We hope you will come and visit Wetwang during Scarecrow Week. In the meantime, please enjoy our Website, which is packed with fun and useful information to make your day truly magical.
Thank you on behalf of the villagers for supporting this essential fundraising activity.
Kind regards
The Wetwang Village Hall Committee
