Categories & Rules for 2008
The categories and rules for this year’s Scarecrow Festival entries have now been decided. The categories have been simplified for 2008 as follows:
? There will be 5 entry levels: child, adult, family, organisation, out of town
? There will be 3 categories: novelty, traditional, characters from books
There will be prizes awarded for each category winner (selected by judges), and an overall prize for the best scarecrow (voted by the public).
Make scarecrow history by picking up a voting form at the Village Hall and voting for your favourite scarecrow of 2008.
Please note the following guidelines for all 2008 scarecrow entries:
‘Child’ entry level
- means a child was at least 75% responsible for making the scarecrow
‘Family’ entry level
- means a scarecrow – or group of scarecrows – made by a family as a joint effort
‘Organisation’ entry level
- means a scarecrow – or group of scarecrows – made by a school, playgroup, business,
doctors’ surgery etc. as a joint effort
‘Out of Town’ entry level
- means a scarecrow – or group of scarecrows – made by any individual or group not living in Wetwang (note: at this entry level we will be awarding just one set of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes regardless of entry category)
‘Traditional’ category
- means exactly what it says (think: Worzel Gummidge, Aunt Sally or Bill and Ben)
‘Novelty’ category
- means “anything goes”
‘Characters from books’ category
- could be characters from nursery rhymes or fairytales, superheros from comics, characters in literature or historical figures
Please also note:
Each scarecrow or group of scarecrows may only be entered in one category and entry level
i.e. you cannot enter a scarecrow individually as a child or adult entry AND as part of a group made by a family or organisation
